Plagiarism is a substantial concern for academic writers and needs to be avoided. In order for writers to avoid plagiarism, they need a clear understanding of what plagiarism is, what constitutes as plagiarism, methods/tools for avoiding plagiarism, and the consequences of plagiarism.
Task: Students will listen to two podcasts on plagiarism and write a summary for each giving credit to the sources so as to avoid plagiarizing. Students will share summaries with a partner and together, partners will create a rubric to evaluate podcasts. Finally, the podcasts used for this task will be scored by both partners using the rubric created.
Process/Guidance: 1. Listen to podcasts and take notes
Podcast 1: Grammar Girl redefines plagiarism and offers different scenarios involving plagiarism. Grammar Girl also offers tips on how to take notes carefully to avoid accidental plagiarism. http://www.podcast.com/Education/Language-Courses/I-408318.htm
